“used to”

Those words have haunted me lately.

I used  play soccer. I used to be a lacrosse player. I used to be witty. I used to be fun. I used to go on adventures. I used to be skinny. I used to be tan. I used to have money. I used to have cute clothes. I used to play the viola. I used to sing. I used to have boyfriends. I used to live in the moment. I used to have no worries.

I used to be a lot of things.

Does this happen to anyone else?

The roomies and I are reading the Book of Mormon in 30 days (knock on wood). We’re three days down (& about 60 pages in).  Not too shabby right?  Well, we were reading 2 Nephi tonight.  And this verse hit me, just like it always does: “…men are that they might have joy.”

Of course!

Although I “used to be” a lot of things, those things have become new things, in some cases better things.  I’m going to work on being grateful for who I am, and not dwell on  who I have been.  Because I am that I might have joy!

So farewell, use-ta-heather, with your tan skin, size 10 jeans, and bubbling confidence.

Hello, pastey-white-more-to-love heather! Older and wiser too.

First Day Jitters.

I don’t really have them. Never really got them. But here’s what went wrong.

1. Alarm didn’t go off. So not ideal.

2. I think today was the coldest day in existence.

3. “Welcome to the History of Science Fiction where we will read and discuss 15 Sci-Fi novels.” Um…..what? I haven’t read 15 novels EVER. And I have never read a Science Fiction novel, and really don’t plan to. Sianara!

4. Did I mention it is freezing? Like, so freezing that my toast FROZE on the way to the bus stop. IT FROZE.

Okay, now–what went right.

1. I am so in the right major. I love my art classes and adore my art history class.

2. I get to go to school! How lucky am I?

3. Tender mercy in the computer lab today (I’ll explain that when I explain something else, later).

4. It’s a new semester! That’s always a good feeling. Now I just have to finish 😉

Happy First Day of School! (And Happy Snow Day for you Coloradans out there, miss you already!)

show ’em my motto [2011]

It’s that time of year!

A new scripture & motto are in order.

2011’s scripture:

D&C 6:6-10

“Now, as you have asked, behold, I say unto you, keep my commandments, and seek to bring forth and establish the cause of Zion;  Seek not for riches but for wisdom, and behold, the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto you and then shall you be made rich. Behold, he that hath eternal life is rich. Verily, Verily I say unto you, even as you desire of me so it shall be unto you;  and if you desire, you shall be the means of doing much good in this generation. Say nothing but repentance unto this generation;  keep my commandments, and assist to bring forth my work, according to my commandments, and you shall be blessed. Behold thou hast a gift, and blessed art thou because of thy gift. Remember it is sacred and cometh from above”

I know, it’s lengthy. But how beautiful!

2011’s motto:

live & let live.

Also, an addition to this year’s scripture and motto–my sister’s suggestion–a word.  A single word that will motivate all of our New Year’s resolutions. She chose “thoughtful” which I thought was a very good choice. I struggled with choosing just one word. But the one that I’m most stuck on is

I want to be more graceful in my relationships with others.  Be more refined and aware of their needs, ya know?

I hope you have a beautiful new year!
